Chris Peeters
CEO of Elia Group
Chris Peeters is CEO of Elia Group, active in electricity transmission. With subsidiaries in Belgium (Elia Transmission Belgium) and northeast Germany (50Hertz), the Group operate 18,600 km of high-voltage connections that supply power to 30 million end users. As such, Elia Group is one of Europe’s top five transmission system operators. In addition to its activities as a transmission system operator in Belgium and Germany, the Elia Group provides various consulting services to international customers through its subsidiary Elia Grid International (EGI). Elia is also part of the Nemo Link joint venture that has built the first subsea electrical interconnector between Belgium and the United Kingdom.
Before joining Elia Group, Chris Peeters ran the Business Consulting activities of Schlumberger in Europe, Russia, Africa and the Middle East. Prior to that, he was 14 years with McKinsey & Company (of which seven years as Partner), specialising in the energy sector. The first 10 years of his career, he created an engineering firm and subsequently started a manufacturer of building materials, before joining Hoogovens Aluminium as Sales and Technical Manager for part of Europe. Chris Peeters holds a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering at the University of Leuven, Belgium
